There are seven species of venomous snakes that reside in the Dallas Fort Worth area. Though it should be noted that the national average of fatal snake bites in the U.S. is only 2%. The majority of victims are Caucasian males aged 18-25 who try to capture or handle a venomous snake. Unfortunately, alcohol or other drugs are involved. One thing to note, is that most snake bites can be avoided, and are the fault of the bite victim. In all reality, there are more deaths in the United States from lightning strikes, vending machines falling over on them, or an allergic reaction from an insect sting than snake bites.
It is extremely important that you stay away and to not provoke or try to handle or catch any snake that has not been properly identified. Always stay at least five to six feet away from any snake. If you get any close you might be entering into their strike range. Though the number of non-venomous snakes drastically outweighs the number of venomous snakes, it is still extremely important to know what you are dealing with. One wrong move with the wrong type of snake is all it takes. It is STRONGLY suggested that when snake problems arise, to call a professional immediately. Do not encroach upon their turf, or agitate them in any way, shape, or form. We have to keep in mind that these creatures don’t want to hurt us, but if they feel threatened, they wont hesitate. Its important to have a level of fear and respect for these creatures.
